Hashem sits within the firm’s Global Dispute Resolution team in London, specialising in commercial litigation, international arbitration, and reputation management.
He is frequently instructed on matters with a Middle Eastern element where he deploys his deep understanding of the region and native Arabic language skills.
His international arbitration experience includes working on disputes under the rules of several arbitration institutions such as the ICC, LCIA and ICSID. Hashem has also represented clients before the English High Court and Court of Appeal in London.
Hashem has considerable experience in advising clients on reputational risks arising from contentious matters and cases which have a geopolitical or diplomatic dimension. He acts for company directors and other prominent individuals, corporate entities, and media publishers and broadcasters on a range of media law issues relating to defamation, misuse of private information, breach of confidence, blackmail and harassment. Before joining Clyde & Co, Hashem trained and qualified at a leading boutique specialising in media litigation and public international law.
Hashem obtained his BSc at King’s College London and completed his Senior Status LLB at SOAS, University of London, where he graduated at the top of his cohort.
Publications include: “AHG Industry v Iraq and ICSID's Manifest Lack of Legal Merit Rule: A Welcome Decision, but what about ICSID Claimants? Jus Mundi, 22 March 2023” and “Brexit and international arbitration: the anti-suit injunction (October 2019). Young Arbitration Review, 35, pp. 6-11”.
