Abuse is an emotive subject that frequently attracts media attention, whether it involves sexual, physical or emotional abuse, harassment, bullying or neglect of children or adults in educational institutions, care homes, the workplace, charities, sport, media or religious organisations. We are recognised leaders in representing clients following disclosure of recent or historical abuse, advising on safeguarding requirements, responding to claims for damages, representing organisations at statutory inquiries or establishing schemes of redress.
We work closely with clients to meet their aims. We are sensitive to varying demands and requirements which arise, depending upon the circumstances and the approach our client wishes to pursue. We seek to foster dialogue and build pragmatic relationships with claimants’ representatives, to minimise unnecessary costs and, where appropriate, reach a swift resolution. We have a culture of respect and empathy towards all parties.
Our abuse lawyers defend both group actions and individual claims, dating from many decades ago through to more recent accusations which can often include social media.
We work with clients to consider their current safeguarding approach as well as representing clients in statutory inquiries. We have established many schemes of redress when clients face multiple claims and seek to find an alternative way to respond.
Our extensive experience of dealing with sensitive cases helps us to work with clients to anticipate potential media interest, develop strategies that are mindful of reputational concerns and ensure media exposure is controlled and legally accurate.
We work closely with industry bodies and key policymakers, to share our knowledge of the abuse market.
