Tiago is a Special Counsel based in the Sydney office, who has extensive experience in construction, engineering and infrastructure sectors, with a focus on dispute resolution, including litigation, arbitration, expert determination and security of payment claims.

Tiago is a Special Counsel in the Projects & Construction team in our Sydney office, who has over 10 years’ experience representing clients in all forms of dispute resolution. During this time, he has acted on several high-profile disputes, including Court proceedings, domestic and international arbitrations and expert determinations.

Tiago is also highly proficient in preparing adjudication applications and responses under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 1999 (NSW) and corresponding legislation. Further, he has successfully acted for both applicants and respondents in respect of various challenges and appeals in the Supreme Court in connection with the enforcement of adjudication determinations.

In respect of transactions, Tiago has extensive experience drafting reviewing and negotiating agreements (standard and bespoke) on behalf of principals, contractors and consultants.

Prior to joining Clyde & Co in April 2022, Tiago has worked for leading construction legal practices across Australia. He completed his Master of Laws in 2016, graduating as the top student in the course.

Expérience
  • Acting for an Alliance on a multibillion-dollar infrastructure project in Brisbane.
  • Acting on a large-scale arbitration involving multiple international players in connection with major infrastructure works in Sydney.
  • Successfully acted for an Italian design consultant in obtaining a mandatory stay to arbitration from the NSW Supreme Court (CPB Contractors Pty Ltd v DEAL S.R.L. [2021] NSWSC 820).
  • Successfully acted for a head contractor in respect of an application to set aside an Adjudication Determination (Acciona Infrastructure Australia Pty Ltd v Holcim (Australia) Pty Ltd [2020] NSWSC 1330)
  • Successfully defended an application to set aside an Adjudication Determination on behalf of a contractor (Canterbury-Bankstown Council v Payce Communities Pty Limited [2019] NSWSC 1803).
  • Successfully defended an application by a council to restrain a contractor from making an adjudication application (Canterbury-Bankstown Council v Payce Communities Pty Ltd [2019] NSWSC 1419).
  • Acted on multiple large-scale arbitrations between 2020 and 2022, including in connection with the supply of a Wideband Satellite Capability and the development of a major solar power plant.
  • Acted for a contractor in respect of several multimillion-dollar adjudications between 2019 and 2021 in connection with the Sydney Light Rail Project.
  • Acted for a contractor in respect of multiple expert determinations between 2019 and 2021 concerning the redevelopment of public schools in Sydney.
