Tenda is a Partner based in the firm’s Tanzania office working in the Banking and Debt Finance department. Tenda has experience advising across a full spectrum of financing transactions ranging from straightforward commercial lending to more complex project financing transactions involving multiple sources of financing and credit support. Tenda received the ‘individual recommendation’ ranking in the Legal 500 EMEA 2023 and has been ranked as ‘Rising Star’ by IFLR1000 for Banking and Debt Finance.

Tenda is an alumni of the University of Alberta, the University of Hull and the Law School of Tanzania. Tenda is also a member of the Tanganyika Law Society and the East African Law Society.

  • Advising United States International Development Finance Corporation on a USD 10M facility to First Housing Finance.
  • Advising the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) on a USD 120 million loan to CRDB Bank Plc to finance infrastructure and SME projects in Tanzania.
  • Advising iGravity on two transactions: one loan in Kenya under the HEKS / EPER Investment Window to Venture South Kenya (also known as Biashara na Fedha); and two loans in Tanzania under the Impact-Linked Finance Fund Investment Window to Kilimo Fresh and EFTA (also known as Equity for Africa, which is owned by EFAG, the Equity for Africa Group).
  • Acting as English law and Tanzanian law Counsel to Dough Works Limited (Borrower) in relation to a USD 4 million secured mezzanine loan from AfricInvest Private Credit (Lender).
  • Advising Bayerische Landesbank on a EUR 15,110,000.00 ECA covered facility to Bakhresa Food Products Limited.
  • Advising Blackrock Mining Limited on a USD 10M Pre-Payment Facility Agreement and Offtake Agreement for the development of the Mahenge Graphite Project.
  • Advising a mining company on a facility from a syndicate of foreign and local banks for the development of a mining project in Tanzania.
  • Advising Kilombero Sugar Company Limited on a USD 100M facility from a syndicate of Tanzanian banks for the construction and development of a new sugar processing factory.
  • Advising DEG in connection with a financing transaction involving Diamond Trust Bank Tanzania Limited, Exim Bank and I & M Bank.Advising Commerzbank Aktiengesellschaft (Commerzbank) in connection with a financing transaction involving Bakhresa Food Products Ltd and Said Salim Bakhresa and Co. Ltd.
  • Advising Commerzbank on various loans to Jambo Food Products Limited.
  • Advising Commerzbank on three export finance loans to a Tanzanian manufacturing company.
  • Acting for Agence Française de Developpment (AfD) in connection with a financing transaction involving Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania.
  • Acting for Finnish Fund for Industrial Cooperation Limited in connection with a financing transaction involving New Forest Company (Tanzania) Limited. 
  • Advising a Swiss stock corporation that manages multiple impact investment windows in Eastern and Southern Africa, especially in rural areas on two USD denominated loans to a microfinance and an agricultural company in Tanzania.
  • Advising one of the biggest cement companies in Tanzania on a USD 5 million loan from AfriSam (Mauritius) Investment Holdings.
  • Advising ABSA Bank and Standard Bank of South Africa on a USD 140 million and TZS 94 billion loan to a telecoms company.  
  • Advising Helios Towers PLC/HTT Infraco Limited in relation to the issuance of convertible bonds and issuing capacity and enforceability legal opinions on the same.
  • Advising CRDB Bank Plc on an agreement with an international fund and issuing an English law legal opinion.
  • Advising CDC Group in relation to the proposed debt restructuring of Maweni Limestone Limited.
  • Advising a group of creditors (and in particular Root Capital Inc.) on debt restructuring of several loans that the Tanzanian entity in the coffee production industry defaulted on.
  • Advising on the limited recourse secured financing of a teak plantation and saw mill in Tanzania. 
  • Advising AgDevCo Tanzania Limited on a USD 2.4 million financing to Suma Hydro Limited.
  • Advising Standard Bank of South Africa on a debt finance transactions with a telecommunications company.
  • Advising Mobisol GmbH (a company that provides high-quality large solar systems for private households and businesses ranging from 40Wp to 200Wp) on various debt financing transactions in Tanzania involving various international lenders.
  • Advising PROPARCO on a USD 15 million loan to a Tanzanian bank.
  • Advising Peninsula Plaza Limited (a Tanzanian borrower) on a USD 71 million loan from IFC, DEG and PROPARCO.
  • Advising Standard Bank of South Africa on a secured loan to a Tanzanian entity operating in diverse areas such as trading, agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and petroleum, including assisting with monitoring conditions precedent and completion.
