Katy specialises in catastrophic and large loss claims for three major insurers, including road traffic, employer and public liability claims.

Katy is a Senior Partner in the Casualty team, based in our Manchester office. She specialises in defence catastrophic personal injury claims including motor, employer's liability and public liability claims.

She comes from a background of Claimant personal injury with over 20 years' experience, the last 11 years' of which have been spent in the Defendant insurance work.   Katy has a particular interest in chronic pain, brain injury and severe spinal injury claims.  She deals with claims with a value ranging from GBP 100,000 to claims in excess of GBP 1m. She has recently assisted a partner in the settlement of a child brain injury case that settled for circa £13m.

Expérience
  • Regularly instructed by insurers in relation to all aspects of chronic pain claims.
  • Advising insurers in complex high value personal injury claims in relation to legal liability and quantum.
  • Assisted on Armstrong v Hoylake Cottage HT [2014]; Lady with a congenitally deformed hand injured the other hand in a liability admitted accident and claimed a substantial 6 figure sum for loss of earnings, care, aids, and equipment. ADR, in various guises, failed and Neil Southern ran the case to a 3-day trial in Liverpool, resulting in a finding of conscious exaggeration and an indemnity costs order.
  • Settled a case pleaded at £1.5million having served surveillance for £50k inclusive of damages and costs.
  • Successfully got a claim discontinued at Trial against the Insured, who had the Claimant been successful would have resulted in a six-figure sum.
  • Recently settled a case that was pleaded at £1.5m with costs of around £350k, following service of surveillance for circa £182k inc of costs.
  • Recently settled a case pleaded at circa £400k for £25k, following service of medical evidence and surveillance.
