Jeremy is a Partner in our Projects & Construction team based in Dubai. With 15 years of specific construction law experience, Jeremy is highly experienced in advising and representing public and private sector clients on issues arising on major projects in the Middle East. He has recently been ranked as “Recommended” for UAE Construction in the Legal 500 EMEA 2023 Rankings.

Jeremy provides clients with commercially focussed advice on legal issues arising on all aspects of construction projects, including project procurement, contract drafting and negotiation, project management, contract termination, and all types of dispute resolution forums.  He is particularly skilled in managing complex arbitrations and in getting across significant amounts of detail in order to identify the key legal and factual issues likely to be determinative of the outcome of a dispute.

He has acted for and advised some of the world's largest construction and engineering companies together with governments, mine owners and international investment funds.

His experience spans the property, mining and public and private infrastructure sectors, having advised clients on cases involving low, medium and high rise mixed-use developments, luxury hotels and resorts, LNG onshore plants, closed and open cycle gas fired power stations, coal handling preparation plants, underground longwall systems, drill and blast operations, airports, ship-loading facilities, onshore and offshore port marine works, rail maintenance facilities and roads.

Jeremy is a strong negotiator and advocate and is committed to achieving the best possible outcome for his clients.

Expérience
  • Acting for an employer in head contract ICC and ad-hoc arbitrations on USD 8 billion phosphate project in Saudi Arabia defending separate contractor claims for extensions of time, variations and prolongation costs and prosecuting counterclaims for defect rectification and termination damages.
  • Acting for a contractor on Palm Jumeirah luxury residential and hotel resort development in two DIAC arbitrations against subcontractors defending claims for extensions of time, disruption, acceleration, prolongation costs and variations and counterclaiming for delay damages, rectification of defects and termination damages.  
  • Acting for a contractor in head contract arbitrations on two high profile residential and resort projects in Dubai under DIFC-LCIA and DIAC Arbitration Rules respectively.  Advancing claims for hundreds of variations, lengthy extensions of time and associated prolongation and disruption costs. 
  • Advising a contractor on a major rail upgrade project in Saudi Arabia in respect of its claims for extensions of time, prolongation costs and variations.
  • Advising a Saudi Arabian civil contractor in relation to a dispute with its joint venture party regarding their SAR 8 billion contract to perform civil and technical works on a major government infrastructure project in Saudi Arabia.
  • Successfully obtained an injunction preventing a call upon a contractor’s AED200 million bonds. 
  • Successfully defended a contractor against an injunction application seeking to restrain a call upon AED150 million in bonds.
