Denise is an English qualified solicitor. She joined Clyde & Co in 2011.
Denise holds a Master’s Degree (L.L.M) in Maritime and International Trade Law from the University of Southampton.
Denise is a Senior Associate with a large experience handling complex shipping matters. She has defended the interests of ship and cargo owners, charterers, insurers and shipyards in transnational disputes, including in relation to marine, oil pollution and damages to third parties.
She has advised clients on several questions of maritime law, including on regulatory matters and on the application and interpretation of international maritime treaties, conventions and other regulations.
Denise also has notable strength in consultancy, litigation and arbitration, corporate and regulatory matters related inter alia to the insurance and reinsurance and trade and energy sectors.
She always works together with local correspondent counsel when dealing with Brazilian law advice.
Expérience
- Acting for P&I Clubs, Owners and Charterers the English law questions arising out of several marine casualties in Brazil, including in a major casualty in the North of Brazil, where the insured vessel, a livestock carrier loaded with approx. 5,000 cattle, capsized next to the pier at the Port, resulting in oil spill and interruption of the Port's activities and a casualty with an LPG carrier that exploded during loading operation at a terminal in the North of Brazil, resulting in a major oil spill with losses in the region of USD 300 million.
- Assisted several Underwriters on English law questions following collisions between vessels in Brazil, including a matter with damages in the region of USD 50 million.
- Advising Owners and Charterers on charterparties' dispute.
- Providing coverage and regulatory advices to Insurers and Reinsurers.
- Providing legal assistance to several Underwriters in cross border transactions by providing legal assistance on the acquisition of companies, including running a due diligence and drafting Sale Purchase Agreements.
- Assisting Oil & Gas client in London arbitration proceedings, including a major LCIA arbitration with counter claims in restitution in the region of USD 380 million; and an LCIA arbitration involving the rights and obligations in respect of clients' participation at and withdrawal from oil fields in India.
