Profil complet

Val Jones is a partner in our Manchester office. She acts regularly on behalf of insurers and for the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB). She often handles cases of maximum severity.

Val manages all aspects of these claims, including other regulatory, inquest and criminal jurisdictions, as well as civil damages. These cases often include serious brain injuries, spinal injuries or amputations. They also include sensitive, significant issues involving duty of care, liability, ex turpi causa, policy indemnity and coverage.

Val also has more than 30 years’ litigation experience covering the Road Traffic Acts (RTA), employers' liability and public liability.

Her experience includes discrete areas of liability, including:
- duty of care, (Woodland v Essex County Council [2013] UKSC 66)
- liability of unincorporated associations, (Prole v Allen [1950], Robertson v Ridley [1989] et al),
- foreseeability in psychiatric loss cases and those cases involving illegality and ex turpi causa.

Val is often instructed in the most sensitive of cases by clients, reflecting her technical and emotional intelligence skills. She has been called "an excellent advocate", a "very shrewd tactician” and “incredibly caring and responsive to needs”.

For the last 18 years, Val has acted as a Deputy District Judge (DDJ) on the Northern Circuit.
