Louise Jackson is a Partner in the Manchester office.

Louise has specialised in Clinical Negligence litigation for over 14 years and leads a team working on medical and dental negligence matters for MDO and insurer clients.  She also has experience of working on matters involving General Practitioners for NHS Resolution.  

She has particular expertise in supporting primary care practitioners and clinicians working in the private sector. 

Louise’s caseload is varied and she is often instructed on matters involving complex technical or procedural points (see experience below). She has been involved in several reported cases including Hughes v Rattan [2022] EWCA Civ 107 which addressed the issues of non-delegable duty of care and vicarious liability. She has successfully recovered costs on behalf of clients in matters involving allegations of fundamental dishonesty.  

Louise has been recognised in the Legal 500 for a number of years, most recently as a Next Generation Partner known for being ‘tactically astute’.   She has also received judicial praise for her exemplary conduct and professionalism. 

Expérience
  • Represented Appellant in successful High Court Appeal resulting in Claimant being denied relief from sanctions and leading to successful strike out of the allegations unsupported by expert evidence. The Claimant was penalised in costs and eventually discontinued the Claim (Magee v Willmott [2020] EWCH 1378 (QB))
  • Recovered over £250,000 in costs for clients in alleged fundamental dishonesty Claims (including a finding at Trial in a claim relating to cosmetic surgery)
  • Successfully defended a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Trial relating to a retinal detachment in which the Claimant sought extensive damages (De Roeper v NHS Commissioning Board (1) & Mr Andrew Ramsay (2))
  • Represented the treating dental practitioners in a leading Court of Appeal Case on the issues of vicarious liability and non-delegable duty of care (Hughes v Rattan [2022] EWCA Civ 107)
  • Successfully defended several General Practitioners at Trials examples include allegations of an alleged delay in diagnosis for cardiac issues leading to a fatal outcome and an alleged delay in diagnosis of colon cancer in a young man.
  • Currently representing a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon in a high profile action.  
  • Successfully defended an Equality Act Claim against a GP practice for alleged failures to make reasonable adjustments.
