Louis is an associate in our Hamburg practice for maritime and non-maritime insurance law. He joined Clyde & Co in 2022 focussing on complex insurance claims, both contentious and non-contentious including coverage, claims handling, third-party liability and recourse actions. Louis primarily advises and represents insurers and insureds from the German market, the international company market and the Lloyd's market in their specialty book capacity (including hull, yacht, war risk, cargo, entertainment and fine art / specie).

Before qualifying as a German lawyer, Louis worked for several years at the Chair of Insurance Law at the University of Hamburg with a special focus on the Financial Lines. His doctoral thesis on excess insurance (Grundlagen der Exzedentenversicherung) was awarded as best insurance law thesis 2020 by the Association for the Promotion of Insurance Science in Hamburg (VFVH).

• Representing of insurers in marine hull insurance litigation 
• Advising insurers on complex cash-in-transit insurance and recourse matters
• Advising insurers on the interaction of local policies and master policy in an international marine insurance programme (DIL / DIC clauses)
