William’s litigation practice focuses on the defence of complex, multi-party, and high-value claims against lawyers and law firms. He has advised on claims involving underlying matters in the corporate, finance, real estate, tax, and litigation sectors. William also has experience of advising lawyers in relation to regulatory investigations, and also regularly advises law firms on risk management issues. William also acts for other professionals facing professional negligence claims, including accountants and construction professionals.

In addition to professional negligence and regulatory matters, William’s practice includes acting for both claimants and defendants in commercial litigation across a variety of sectors, including energy, construction and real estate. His experience includes successfully defending a claim for breach of contract relating to the energy sector and acting for the claimant in a dispute regarding high value residential property. William also has a particular interest in disputes involving high-value classic and collectors’ cars.

William has experience of arbitration, High Court litigation (including at Appellate level), and various forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution, including mediation. William is a Solicitor Advocate with higher rights of audience, and has experience of advocacy in the High Court. William joined Clyde & Co in 2014, having first trained and practiced in the litigation team of a leading City law firm.

  • Advising a large energy sector contractor in relation to a £12m breach of contract claim
  • Acting for the administrators of a liquidated firm of solicitors in the defence of a £6.2m professional negligence claim
  • Acting on behalf of an off-shore trust in relation to a claim of fraud arising from the sale of high-value London residential property
  • Advising a UK based international law firm in relation to a claim for negligence arising out of a failed property financing transaction (and in connected proceedings where the insured firm was acting as claimant)
  • Advising a UK engineering company in respect of a claim relating to a conference centre heating system in Canada
  • Acting on behalf a substantial UK construction contractor in relation to delays and defects arising from the construction of a hospital
  • Advising in relation to various claims against a UK law firm arising from allegedly negligent tax advice
  • Advising a firm of accountants regarding allegedly negligent advice in respect of VAT
  • Successfully overturning in the Court of Appeal a claim against a firm of solicitors alleging breach of trust
