Argentina and Chile share the third-longest border in the world and are currently making headlines for different, yet somehow similar reasons: the enactment of new legislation which will likely impact the insurance business.
While Argentina’s Congress has finally approved President Javier Milei’s signature pro-business reforms, Chile’s new white collar crime law will boost appetite for D&O coverage, as it expands liability for economic crimes and introduces new environmental offences. This has prompted reviews of board membership, D&O coverage and crime prevention models.
In turn, Latin America currently supplies about 35% of the world’s lithium, according to the International Energy Agency, with Chile (26%) and Argentina (6%) leading the way in this new “white gold” rush.
With the enactment of new legislation in Chile and Argentina, which will likely impact the insurance business, Felipe Hoetz, partner, Clyde & Co Chile, and Pablo Cereijido, partner, Marval, participated as speakers in a webinar discussion focused on President Javier Milei’s signature pro-business reforms in Argentina, including Chile’s new white collar crime law and how it will boost appetite for D&O coverage.
