The Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) recently announced the introduction of a new Private Teacher Work Permit which allows teachers to offer private tuition for students, either individually or in groups, outside of educational establishments. There is no cap on the number of students who can be taught, and lessons can be provided in person or online. This permit presents a significant shift in education regulation, allowing flexibility in teaching arrangements.
The introduction of the permit for qualified individuals to provide private lessons is designed to improve education standards and to help regulate the provision of private lessons for students.
The permit is available to a diverse range of individuals, including registered teachers in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 – 18, and university students.
Notably, the permit also enables the holder to work from their home country if they have a valid residence visa in the United Arab Emirates.
Eligible applicants will be able to submit a request for the Private Teacher Work Permit through the MOHRE smart application, website, and e-services system. The permit is granted free of charge for an initial two-year period, with the possibility of renewal.
