Our Being a Regional MEA Employer series addresses the employment framework, legislative changes and challenges impacting employers and employees across a variety of jurisdictions. Our seventh episode focuses on Morocco, a country in the Maghreb region of North-western Africa.
There are six countries which shape North Africa or the Maghreb; Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and Sudan. When doing business in these countries it’s important to take into consideration the geo-political landscape as diplomatic issues have an impact on the economic environment and therefore doing business such as the issuance of visas or the blocking of imports. The Maghreb is influenced by the French and its legal system.
For many years, Morocco has been the land of opportunity for investment and an attractive tourist destination. Whilst investment steadily continues in the education, hospitality, food and beverage, automotive, and technology sectors, the country has more recently seen an increase in investment opportunities in the energy sector, mainly in solar projects.
