Celeste is a Senior Associate in the insurance practice in our Johannesburg office. She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, and has been at Clyde & Co since 2019.

Celeste’s expertise and focus areas are in insurance coverage advice and disputes, and she has assisted various insurers in Southern Africa with complex coverage opinions on a variety of different claims, including property and asset damage, machinery breakdown, fraud and theft, and specifically on COVID-19 business interruption claims. Celeste also has experience in corporate and regulatory work, defence and recovery litigation, as well as general commercial litigation. 
Experience
  • Insurance - Involved in the day to day running of the defence of the first COVID-19 business interruption claim in South Africa which was heard by the Supreme Court of Appeal in South Africa in December 2020 (Guardrisk Insurance Company Limited v Café Chameleon CC) 
  • Insurance - Advising insurers on COVID-19 business interruption claims in South Africa, and other Southern African countries
  • Insurance – Adivsing insurers on a variety of coverage issues in respect of property and asset damage claims, machinery breakdown, and fraud and theft 
  • Commercial Disputes - Assisting insurer with complex recovery to the value of ZAR130 million following fraud by employee
