Lucia is a Senior Associate in Clyde & Co's London office. Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2016, she has specialised in international arbitration of complex, high-value disputes arising from catastrophic environmental incidents, extensive property damage or mass tort lawsuits, particularly under excess insurance contracts (Bermuda Form).
She is experienced in case management, especially of ad hoc arbitrations under English Law, and in bringing Court claims in support of arbitration proceedings, including applications for anti-suit injunctions.
As part of the firm’s Climate Risk and Resilience practice, Lucia advises clients on issues surrounding the transition to net zero, particularly climate litigation risk. Lucia has delivered presentations and workshops on climate litigation and climate and biodiversity reporting frameworks and has co-authored several thought leadership pieces on climate change litigation and liability risks.
She is also part of Clyde & Co's Gender Equality Committee (GECCO) and has advised clients pro bono at Lambeth Evening Advice Service and in association with LawWorks.
Lucia is bilingual in Italian and English, fluent in French, and is accustomed to working closely with counsel in other jurisdictions.
Experience
- Defending excess liability insurers, in London arbitration, from claims for coverage of damages arising from the explosion of an offshore oil drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico
- Acting for excess liability insurers and re-insurers in respect of coverage claims arising from groundwater damage caused by methyl tertiary butyl ether (“MTBE”)
- Acting for insurers of a coal mining company in obtaining multiple anti-suit injunctions in the Commercial Court, to prevent the company from continuing proceedings in the USA
- Acting for insurers of a multinational agrochemical company in proceedings under Swiss Rules of International Arbitration and ICC rules, arising from claims by US farmers relating to a GMO seed
- Acting for the insurer of an Italian hospital in relation to a long-running medical malpractice case brought by a former patient against the hospital and others in the Italian courts
- Acting for a large European insurer in successfully mediating a coverage dispute brought against it by a logistics/waste management company, arising from a personal injury claim
