Kate is a Senior Associate in the Professional & Financial Disputes team, based in Brisbane. 

Kate’s primary focus is on contentious matters and litigation. Kate regularly acts as defence counsel in litigation concerning engineering, construction, financial lines and legal professionals. Kate has extensive trial and advocacy experience. She has acted or assisted as defence counsel in a number of high profile pieces of litigation and has experience in managing high value and multi-party complex litigation in all courts of the Queensland and Federal jurisdictions. 

Experience
  • Professional Indemnity (Financial Lines) - Acting for the investment and asset manager of a large commercial property group to defend a claim for misleading and deceptive conduct. The matter involved a complex and lengthy but ultimately successful trial. The decision is presently subject to appeal.  
  • Professional Indemnity (Construction) - Acting for the architect and principal contractor to defend a claim involving the removal and rectification of ACP cladding. The claim was approximately $22 million.
  • Professional Indemnity (Legal) - Acting for and providing advice to a Queensland legal practitioner in relation to an action to be stricken from the roll and defending a claim for allegations of unsatisfactory and/or professional misconduct. 
  • Professional Indemnity (Legal) - Acting for and providing advice to a member of the Queensland bar in relation to an action concerning allegations of unsatisfactory or professional misconduct. 
  • Professional Indemnity (Construction) - Acting for the building certifier to defend a claim involving the removal and rectification of ACP cladding. The claim was approximately $20 million.
  • Professional Indemnity (Other) - Acting for an insured organisation in relation to the conduct of a coronial inquest concerning a death in care. 
  • Directors and Officers – Acting for a director in relation a public examination of an insolvent company and providing advice in relation to defending unfair preference claims (and other insolvency related claims).
