Janet is a Senior Associate in the Insurance, Finance and Professional Disputes team in Manchester and joined the firm in July 2022 when the firm merged with BLM.  

She qualified as a solicitor in July 2015 and previously worked as a paralegal so she has over 13 years experience in defending complex professional negligence claims against a broad range of professionals, including solicitors, loss adjusters, surveyors, real estate professionals, construction professionals and accountants. Janet has advised clients on policy coverage issues arising from property damage claims, including challenges to the nature of indemnity and non-disclosure.

Experience

• Successfully defending a claim at trial regarding the alleged negligent advice and drafting of a Letter of Wishes by a solicitor, which allegedly resulted in a loss of £3 million. 
• Acting on behalf of a large firm of solicitors in a professional negligence claim against them regarding the lost opportunity to develop a property that the claimants claimed would have generated a profit of £865,000.  The claim was defended to trial and the court dismissed the claim on the basis that the prospect of the claimants succeeding in acquiring and developing the property was "fanciful".
• Representing a firm of solicitors throughout the claim and at trial in relation to a claim against them regarding the wording of a reference letter of a former employee of a college. The court dismissed the claim and held that the solicitor did not owe a duty of care to the Claimant to advise in relation to any potential safeguarding questionnaire.
• Advising a firm of loss adjusters regarding which insurance policy covered the theft of some equipment belonging to this multi-national conglomerate while in transit in Europe.
