Full Profile

Flora specialises in a wide range of areas, both contentious and non-contentious. She focuses on dry shipping and insurance/reinsurance litigation and arbitration as well as international trade. She has a particular expertise in matters relating to cargo claims, bills of lading, charterparties, and international trade. 

She regularly advises and represents large state-owned and international traders, energy companies and insurance/re-insurance companies. She also provides contract review services and advice for trading companies on a regular basis. 

Flora is a graduate of Dalian Maritime University on Maritime Law and she obtained her Master’s degree on Common Law at the University of Hong Kong. Flora is named as one of the Rising Stars by Legal 500 APAC on a year on year basis.

Flora speaks fluent Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

Experience
  • Negotiating /reviewing contracts for a leading international oil company and advising on queries on regular basis. 
  • Advising various commodities traders on various disputes with Chinese counterparties such as Chinese customs issues.
  • Advising a leading Chinese oil company on various daily queries including queries under oil trading contracts and charterparties. 
  • Advising an international commodities trader on various issues such as trade compliance issues, warehousing, licensing and fraud/bankruptcy risks. 
  • Advising various trading companies in recognition/enforcement of foreign arbitration awards. 
  • Advising London reinsurance markets on issues under PI insurance policies and monitoring a number of Chinese proceedings. 
  • Assisting a leading reinsurer in Chinese court proceedings in relation to a large gas explosion accident in Hainan.
  • Advising a leading Chinese insurer under an insurance policy covering payment of hire under a bareboat charterparty where the charterers entered into judicial management proceedings in Singapore.
  • Representing a leading reinsurance company in CIETAC arbitration for disputes under a reinsurance agreement. 
  • Assisting a major Chinese insurance company where they had commenced litigation in Malaysia against a local reinsurer.
