Amelia has experience in financial lines and construction insurance disputes acting for insurers and insureds in both the local and international insurance market. Amelia's construction experience includes acting for engineers, builders, M&E consultants, architects and surveyors. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Amelia started at Clyde & Co in October 2019 joining the construction professional indemnity team. Prior to this Amelia gained experience in financial lines, property and energy, directors & officers and construction claims. Amelia advises insurers on indemnity and coverage issues as well as defence and subrogated recovery claims. Amelia has strong litigation experience in the NSW District and Supreme Courts as well as more recently in the Technology and Construction Court.
In the past Amelia has been heavily involved in pro bono initiatives at the Senor Rights Service and assisting refugees with Australian High Court applications. In 2019, Amelia was recognised as a finalist in Australia's Lawyers Weekly 30 under 30 awards in the insurance law category. Amelia has drafted a number of industry articles / publications including XL Catlin D&O Securities Class Action White Paper series and the Insurance Year in Review.
Experience
- Providing coverage advice to insurers of a façade subcontractor in relation to a claim concerning stone cladding on a commercial development
- Acting for insurers of a large construction firm in relation to breach of contract and negligence claims as well as coverage under the professional indemnity policy.
- Providing coverage advice to the London market of insurers on a complex construction dispute concerning road and infrastructure upgrades in Australia, including advising the master policy insurance market on the application of the project specific policy and the master policy
- Advising a market of excess layer insurers as coverage counsel on a multimillion dollar class action, including advising the market on coverage based on a very technical and specific application of a professional liability exclusion
- Investigating and pursuing various subrogated recovery actions against a number of subcontractors in respect of cladding defects
