Petra Starr represents insurers on general liability, professional liability, and property matters. Petra is experienced in assisting clients in complex general liability coverage disputes arising from claims involving opioids, abuse and molestation, pesticides and construction bodily injury to alleged violations of the Biometric Privacy Act under various liability insurance policies.

Petra previoulsy worked as in-house coverage litigation counsel for a large carrier and has experience at multiple insurance coverage firms in New York City, where she advised insurers through the entire claim handling process.

  • Obtained summary judgment ruling in a Southern District of New York coverage action that the carrier of a subcontractor was required to defend, indemnify and provide additional insured status to the general contractor and property owner in a construction accident.
  • Settled a New York coverage action pre-discovery with the defendant carrier agreeing to defend, indemnify and provide additional insured status on a primary and non-contributory basis to client’s named insured and its additional insureds.
  • Represented carrier in bankruptcy matter involving legacy sexual abuse claims against a Diocese and its parishes which dealt with issues involving lack of secondary evidence of the alleged policies, number of occurrences, priority of coverage, etc.
  • Settled Illinois coverage action with defendant insurer providing that insurer client owed no coverage for underlying breach of contract and fraud claim.
