Tom has significant dispute resolution experience, primarily in international arbitration.  He has acted on a wide range of cases relating to oil & gas, renewables, construction, commodities and shipping.  Tom has assisted clients involved in disputes within various arbitral frameworks, most particularly LCIA, ICC and LMAA, as well as in the English High Court. Tom also represents clients in investor-state arbitrations under the ICSID regime.

The matters on which Tom assists his clients are frequently multi-jurisdictional and involve complex issues of international law and enforcement.  Tom takes a down-to-earth, commercial approach to understand his clients’ needs and to obtain the best results for them.

Tom has worked on disputes across the Middle East, Latin America, Europe and Africa.  Tom’s most recent focus has been on large scale disputes relating to the construction of offshore and onshore energy projects.

On the regulatory side, he regularly advises on health, safety and environmental law, acting for clients on internal and external investigations.

Tom has been with Clyde & Co since 2007.  He speaks French and Italian, and works with a number of clients from these countries.

Tom is a Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Courts Civil Proceedings), and has the right to represent clients in civil courts throughout England and Wales, as well as in international arbitration.

  • Acting for owners in a USD 500m arbitration against shipbuilders regarding the construction of four semi-submersible CAT-D rigs
  • Acting for a major oil services provider in a series of LCIA disputes concerning the construction of various oil and gas facilities in Iraq under various EPC contracts
  • Acting for a state-owned energy company in an investment treaty arbitration concerning the construction of a power plant in Tanzania
  • Representing an international offshore contractor in a USD 1 billion LMAA claim against a South American government relating to the expropriation of oil and gas assets
  • Acting for a service provider of rotating equipment services in an UNCITRAL arbitration with a state-owned entity
  • Advising the owners of a large LNG plant in Latin America in relation to an EPC contractual dispute
  • Acting for the owners of a Zambian copper mine in an ICC dispute against a construction contractor
