In July 2022, Gasant joined Clyde & Co's global corporate & advisory practice. Prior to that, Gasant practised in law firms in Cape Town and Johannesburg before being appointed Chief Legal Advisor at South African Airways in 1995. He has also served as a member of the South African Airways Executive Committee, Aviation Safety Review Board and Transformation Committee. 

In 1997, Gasant joined Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, where he was the Managing Partner of the firm's Cape office until June 2022. He is a Chambers Global ranked lawyer who is highly regarded and widely recognised for his extensive expertise in corporate M&A, transaction, and advisory work across several key sectors such as financial services, hospitality and leisure, real estate, aviation and oil and gas.

Gasant also advises on corporate governance matters including advising in relation to directors' duties and liability, memorandums of incorporation, shareholders' agreements, the Companies Act/Regulations, King Report, governance frameworks, board charters and terms of reference, and the like.

Gasant has advised local and international clients on some of South Africa's largest and most progressive transactions, including:

  • Protea Hospitality Group on the sale of its hotel operations to Marriott International Inc in a landmark transaction in the hospitality sector.
  • Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed Grand Parade Investments Limited on the sale of its interest in Burger King South Africa to a private equity fund. 
  • The sale of the iconic Victoria and Alfred Waterfront development in Cape Town to a foreign consortium, including Dubai World, and the subsequent purchase thereof by Growthpoint and the Public Investment Corporation.
  • Old Mutual Group on the sale of its Latin American business and interests in a complex cross-border, multi-jurisdictional transaction.
