Juan Diego Niño-Vargas is an associate in the Paris office's Litigation and International Arbitration team. His practice focuses on investment and commercial arbitration (including ICC, ICSID, PCA and ad hoc arbitration proceedings), setting aside and enforcement proceedings, as well as cross-border litigation. His expertise includes advising States, State entities and international companies in disputes across a wide range of industries before arbitral tribunals and state courts.
Prior to joining Clyde & Co, Juan Diego acquired experience in international arbitration and complex commercial litigation while working for several French and Anglo-Saxon law firms in Paris.
Admitted to the Paris Bar, he holds a Master’s degree in International Law and a Master’s degree in International Business Law from University Paris II Panthéon-Assas, as well as a Postgraduate degree in Business Law from the Institute of Business Law of Paris.
Juan Diego is a Colombian national. He handles cases in French, English, and Spanish.

Represented Ukraine in an ECT arbitration under SCC rules related to a gas supply agreement.
Represented an investor in a commercial arbitration against a Latin American city under ICC rules concerning aerial tramway infrastructure.
Represented a foreign investor in a commercial arbitration against an African state under ICC rules concerning the removal of oil exploration and exploitation licenses.
Represented a Latin American country in a commercial arbitration against a foreign investor under UNCITRAL rules involving a FIDIC dispute over the termination of a mobility infrastructure project.
Represented a Latin American country in an investment protection dispute against a foreign investor under ICSID rules involving telecommunication infrastructure.
Represented a French company in a commercial arbitration under ICC rules regarding a license for the supply of construction materials.
Represented a foreign investor in setting aside proceedings before the Paris Court of Appeal regarding an ICC award rendered against an Asian state-controlled entity relating to telecommunication infrastructure.
Represented a Spanish investor in litigation before the Paris Commercial Court concerning a post-acquisition dispute in the field of renewable energies.
Represented a Spanish bank in litigation before the Paris Commercial Court regarding compliance with European regulations.
