Sam is an Associate based in the Manchester office, having recently joined the firm in May 2021. He sits within the Insurance, Financial and Professional Disputes team.
Sam specialises in the defence of professional negligence claims. He acts for a wide range of professionals, including solicitors, surveyors and valuers, brokers, accountants, construction professionals and their insurers.
Sam recently completed a 7-month secondment within the claims team of a London market Insurer where he gained valuable experience dealing with coverage issues under various policies including professional indemnity and directors & officers’ insurance.
Experience
- Successfully striking out a claim against solicitors for in excess of £100,000 for an alleged failure to break a lease.
- Settling and recovering costs in a claim against solicitors for around £1m for an alleged failure to advise their clients that the properties they were purchasing did not have the necessary planning permissions.
- Defending multiple claims against a cavity wall insulation installer regarding dampness alleged to have been caused by the installations.
- Representing ecologists in a claim for over £1m in respect of allegations that a planning application for a new development was refused due to their failure to properly engage with the relevant authority.
- Defending a claim against architects for around £800,000 for the alleged failure to properly and promptly obtain planning permission for the development of a new block of student accommodation.
- Representing receivers in a claim in which it was alleged that they sold a development site at an undervalue of £400,000.
