Christopher is a Partner based in Johannesburg and has been with Clyde & Co since October 2015.  

Christopher is an experienced litigator and specialist in financial lines coverage & defence, cyber risks & data protection, professional indemnity and directors' liability. 

As a financial lines insurance specialist focused on cyber-security, data protection and incident response, Christopher enables cyber insurers and their clients to manage cyber risks through preparation, response and recovery.

Christopher collaborates on client work with colleagues across sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and in London and is recognised by his insurance clients as a leading specialist in cyber insurance in sub-Saharan Africa.

Experience

Cyber – acting as breach counsel and incident response manager in significant cyber-attack and ransomware events affecting clients in the insurance, healthcare, security, logistics, retail, investment management and financial services sectors.

Cyber – advising local & international insurers on product development, coverage and breach response services.

Cyber – advising on data protection & privacy laws and regulation in South Africa.

Directors’ & Officers’ Liability – representing insured directors in the defence and successful resolution of a reckless trading suit for damages in excess of ZAR700 million.

Directors’ & Officers’ Liability – representing insurers in complex coverage instructions relating to D&O claims, including shareholder / securities litigation, environmental liability, regulatory & Parliamentary investigations & inquiries and related litigation.

Insurance & Reinsurance – advising local & international (re)insurers on coverage for financial institution bonds, fidelity guarantee and commercial crime and professional liability claims.

Professional Liability – advising and defending accountants, auditors, insurance brokers and financial professionals in professional indemnity disputes and disciplinary complaints.
