Alex Michel is an associate with extensive experience in professional negligence claims, health law litigation, construction litigation and general civil litigation. He has represented clients before the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench, as well as all levels of Court in Ontario.

Prior to joining Clyde & Co, Alex worked as defence counsel for the Professional Liability Program (PLP), the malpractice protection provider for Ontario dentists and dental specialists, and ProDemnity, the professional liability insurer for architects in Ontario. In addition, Alex regularly defended engineers, BCIN designers, and other health professionals. Alex has also acted for condominium corporations as both plaintiff and defence counsel in commercial litigation disputes.

Alex takes great pride in giving back to the community. While practicing in Ontario, he regularly volunteered with Pro Bono Ontario, providing free legal advice to low-income Ontarians through the Free Legal Hotline, where he also took on various pro bono clients. Since moving to Calgary, Alex continues to give back to the community, volunteering at the Calgary Courthouse with the KB Amicus Program.

  • GASP Business Services Inc. v ARCA Design Inc., 2021 ONSC 6098 (Div Ct) - Successfully argued to have the Plaintiff's motion for leave to appeal to the Divisional Court dismissed with costs awarded against the Plaintiff.
  • Malone v Burke, 2021 CanLII 66055 (Ont Sm Cl Ct) - Successfully moved to have the Plaintiff's Claim dismissed and obtained costs against the Plaintiff.
