Lucy has experience in dealing with substantial claims involving a wide range of issues and the application of complex legal principles. She handles claims against Police Forces, including misfeasance, malicious prosecution, false imprisonment, assault, breaches of the Human Rights Act. Lucy has an excellent record of securing discontinuances, strike outs and trial wins through her legal knowledge and tactical astuteness.

Lucy has assisted in the representation of Operation Resolve in the Hillsborough inquests and is currently instructed to represent and advise police forces and their insures a number of high profile, complex and extremely sensitive issues.

Lucy assists in defending claims relating to neglect, physical and emotional abuse, failure to remove, and related breaches of Human Rights. These are often of historic nature and involve vulnerable claimants and sensitive highly complex issues. Lucy also handles high value Multi-Track EL personal injury claims, including stress and harassment claims under the equalities act.

Lucy has been identified as an ‘Associate to watch’ in Chambers and Partners and is described as “fantastically organised, personable and has very good judgement" and as a “star of the future” (Chambers 2023).

Experience
  • Instructed to represent Operation Resolve at the Inquests into the Hillsborough stadium disaster.
  • Instrumental in securing a landmark judgment providing important guidance in relation to the applicability of QOCS protection to "mixed claims".
  • Currently working in a team advising a global insurer in respect of civil liability arising out of a terrorist attack
  • Successfully defended a claim for false imprisonment and malicious prosecution arising out of the claimant’s arrest, detention and subsequent prosecution for sexual assault following a 5 day trial.
  • Advised on a high value claim pursued by a police officer who suffered psychiatric injury as a result of attending at various traumatic incidents over a number of years involving complex causation issues.
  • Secured a discontinuance in relation to a claim involving complex legal argument arising due to a third party being under covert surveillance which meant disclosure had to be carefully scrutinised.
  • Lucy is part of the team currently instructed on behalf of 22 individual officers and their respective police forces to represent their interests in the ongoing Undercover Policing Inquiry.
