On the insurance side, Matthew advises clients on various types of insurance products.

Matthew handles criminal litigation. He is in the Fiat List of the Department of Justice and handles prosecution as an advocate. He worked as a public prosecutor for the Department of Justice in 2009.

Matthew’s experience also covers a broad range of shipping matters including charterparty disputes, ship casualties, bunker claims and disputes involving carriage of goods by air, sea and road.

Matthew is recognised in Chambers Greater China 2023 as a leading individual in the area of Shipping Litigation. • London and Hong Kong arbitration proceedings – Acting for clients in different sectors in ad hoc/ administered arbitrations
• Freezing injunction – Acting for clients in applying for and defending freezing injunctions in Hong Kong
• Criminal litigation – Assisting and advising clients regarding investigations by the police and other authorities and in criminal proceedings and appeals
• Commodities – Acting for commodities traders in sales contract disputes and injunction matters  
• Mortgagee action/ship arrest – Acting for mortgagees and other claimants to apply for arrest/sale of vessels and pursue claims against sale proceeds of vessels in Hong Kong
• Bunker disputes – Acting for bunker suppliers in unpaid bunker claims/bunker disputes
