Seth Jaffe

Seth Jaffe’s practice is focused on the representation of domestic and foreign insurers in complex insurance coverage litigation, with a concentration in the areas of environmental contamination, toxic tort, and bad faith. He has litigated cases in state and federal courts throughout the country, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Oregon, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Massachusetts. He also has experience litigating coverage issues related to construction defects, personal and bodily injuries, property damage, and workers' compensation.

In addition to his litigation experience, Seth also regularly assists clients in an advisory capacity, providing counseling relating to issues of insurance coverage, claim monitoring and administration, and reserving analysis.

Experience

• Representing two insurers in Federal court in insurance coverage and bad faith action stemming from significant environmental property damage and bodily injury claims arising from PFAS contamination.

• Assisted in obtaining jury verdict of no coverage following a trial in Missouri state court relating to environmental pollution claims.
• Assisted in obtaining defense verdict following a jury trial in Missouri state court on an insured manufacturer’s breach of contract and bad faith claims relating to coverage for asbestos-related liabilities.
• Obtained summary judgment in federal court on insured mining company’s claims for coverage for lead pollution losses and successful defense of the judgment on appeal to the US Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit.
• Represented insurer client in an insurance coverage dispute involving over seventy insurance policies allegedly covering environmental contamination at over 20 former manufactured gas plant sites throughout Iowa and Illinois.
• Representing insurer clients in a case involving coverage under insurance policies spanning four decades for over 60,000 underlying asbestos claimants located throughout the country.
