Marua completed a Law Degree with Honours in the United Kingdom and has worked in the Projects & Construction team for several years, first as a paralegal and now as an Associate.

Over those years, Marua has been trained in the finer nuances of construction law and is now a key member of the team, working across a range of matters. She is quickly developing a reputation as having attention to detail and a commercially focussed mindset.

Prior to joining Clyde & Co, Marua worked at a Silver Circle law firm in London for two years where she assisted more than thirty associates and partners in the Dispute and Litigation Department.

Marua is a native Arabic speaker, and is also fluent in English, Flemish and Dutch.

Experience
  • Acting for an international main contractor joint venture in arbitration proceedings under the Rules of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre, involving multiple claims and counterclaims, with the largest worth c. AED1 billion, relating to the construction of a resort on the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai.
  • Acting for a large mining company based in KSA in ICC arbitration proceedings involving multiple claims and counterclaims, with the largest valued at c. US$263 million, relating to the construction of a sulphuric acid plant and power plant.
  • Acted for a leading global construction company in arbitration proceedings related to several claims and counterclaims, with the largest valued at c. AED1.7 billion, relating to the expansion of a mall on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi.
  • Acted for a commercial company in local court proceedings involving a debt recovery of c. QAR 11,977,096 for the performance of civil and electrical works on a power transmission project in Qatar.
  • Acted for a real estate company in Qatari local court proceedings and a successful settlement process regarding the recovery of rent in the amount of c. QAR 6,428,658. under a Lease Agreement for a commercial building in Doha, Qatar.
  • Acted for a government entity in successfully defending arbitration proceedings under the Rules of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre, involving a USD 1 billion claim from a contractor arising from the finishes, systems and mechanical and electrical works at the Middle East’s busiest airport.
