Full Profile

A partner based in our Glasgow office, Karen Dance has over 25 years of experience in insurance litigation. She specialises in defending reparation cases. Karen uses her expertise to advise and represent self-insured companies and businesses, as well as a variety of insurers, brokers and claims handlers.

She also has considerable experience in defending a wide range of liability claims. Her expertise includes employers’ liability, public liability, and Road Traffic Acts (RTA) claims, including complex and catastrophic claims. Karen also has a special interest in animal, veterinary and equestrian litigation.

She previously held the position of Director for Governance with Horse Scotland where she lobbied for legislative changes in the equestrian welfare environment.

One of Karen’s most notable cases was Joseph Newman-Purslow v The University of Dundee and Knockhill Racing Circuit Ltd. [year] [court]. During this high-value case, Karen worked on a claim involving a significant head injury and a dispute on liability. She secured a good split liability agreement with the co-defenders and succeeded in negotiating a settlement at a reduced amount, securing significant savings.

Karen is the driving force behind a number of our litigation and technology initiatives. She is also ranked on both Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners legal directories.
