Michelle specialises in coverage advice on insurance and reinsurance contracts and has acted for the Lloyd's syndicates and company insurance markets since 2000, across a broad range of sectors.  

She has particular expertise in Products, Sports Accident & Health, Contingency and Special Risks sectors, with considerable experience in PA, sports insurance, bloodstock, event cancellation, entertainment/cast insurance, kidnap & ransom and travel insurance/reinsurance.

Michelle acts in a wide variety of claims from high value, high profile risks, including international arbitration or confidential and commercially sensitive settlements, to consumer regulatory issues.  She has extensive experience of fraudulent claims. 

Michelle's practice includes drafting policy wording/proposal forms and associated binding authority agreements as well as sector specific regulatory advice, particularly in relation to cyber extortion, ransom payments and contract protection.

Experience

• Acting for the market in coverage disputes regarding many different extremely high profile global sporting events postponed or cancelled due to Covid-19, with claims over USD500m
• Representing the market in relation to music festival cancellations regarding the application of Communicable Disease Exclusions and narrow extensions including at successful mediation
• Representing insurers regarding the impact of Covid-19 on filming of various productions and safe working practices having regard to Civil Authority Extensions and Immediate Peril Extensions
• Advising on production risk for high profile entertainment productions
• Advising the market on the operation of multi-year policy coverages and future events provisions in relation to Covid-19 and other exposures
• Advising in relation to coverage for an apparent state sponsored extortion/prosecution brought as a claim under a K&R policy
• Litigating on behalf of insurers in relation to a defective SAG Mill in a coverage dispute regarding a claim in excess of £50m.
• Litigating on behalf of insurers in relation to the catastrophic failure of a waste energy turbine causing loss of over £6m.
• Advising insurers regarding coverage for a collapse of a fertiliser tank due to a defective seam.
• Acting for insurers in relation to coverage litigation arising out of a kidnap & ransom policy in a dispute valued in excess US$3m regarding non disclosure, interpretation of policy terms and late notification.
• Acting for the market in relation to a dispute regarding a TTD claim for a Premiership footballer with a club claim in excess of £2m with issues on pre-existing disability and causation;
• Advising the market in relation to premier rugby player regarding a PTD claim for £1m with degenerative discs;
