Jonathan is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Energy, Marine and Natural Resources department.
He is experienced in conducting and resolving disputes in the English High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, as well as numerous arbitrations under the LMAA, LCIA, GAFTA, FOSFA and FCC terms.
Jonathan has acted for a range of ship owners, charterers and some of the world’s largest commodities houses in a wide variety of charterparty and sale contract disputes. He regularly advises clients when live issues arise during the transit of goods.
He has also advised a number of shipyards in significant shipbuilding and ship repair disputes concerning large commercial vessels and superyachts.
Jonathan also regularly advises some of the world’s largest banks, technology companies, logistics groups and freight forwarding companies in relation to a broad range of international commercial agreements, particularly in the logistics and freight forwarding sectors, and regulatory issues surrounding the transport of goods by sea and by land.
Jonathan also frequently assists clients with more general commercial and insurance litigation.

- Evergreen Marine (UK) Limited v Nautical Challenge Ltd [2018] EWCA Civ 2173, [2021] UKSC 6, [2022] EWHC 206 (Admlty): Representing the successful owners of the MT “Alexandra I” in relation to this widely reported appeal on the application of the collision regulations and the apportionment of liability for a collision off Jebel Ali;
- MUR Shipping BV v RTI Ltd [2022] EWHC 467 (Comm), [2022] EWCA Civ 1406: Representing the successful charterers in this significant appeal concerning the correct interpretation of “reasonable endeavours” provisions in force majeure clauses;
- Advising various commodities traders and some of the world’s largest commodities houses in relation to a wide variety of sale contract, charterparty and shipment disputes;
- Advising an extensive range of ship owners and charterers in relation to numerous issues arising during the transport of goods, and a variety of charterparty disputes;
