Will advises public entities, employers/ developers, contractors, sub-contractors, engineers and professional consultants in relation to construction, engineering and oil & gas projects in Saudi Arabia.

Before relocating to KSA, Will was based in the firm’s Dubai office from 2016.  During his time in the Middle East, he has assisted clients in relation to several high-profile disputes in the UAE, Syria, Iraq and Oman.  Such have included advancing or defending claims for time and money, rectification of defects, matters of termination, and final account assessments.

Will has advised clients in complex and high-value construction arbitration proceedings pursuant to the SCCA, DIAC, LCIA, ICC, and UNCITRAL Rules, and acted on several smaller disputes pursuant to ad hoc arbitration and court proceedings in local Courts.  He regularly acts as ‘Project Counsel’ during live projects or in anticipation of formal disputes, and advises on matters of health & safety/ assists with criminal and civil proceedings that arise following site injuries/ fatalities.  

Will trained/ qualified with the firm in London and spent his initial years in practice assisting clients on projects/ disputes (adjudication and the TCC) in the UK and Europe.  A 5-month secondment to a UK-based Tier 1 contractor occurred during that time.

  • Assisting Saudi government owned company in relation to claims and disputes with contractors on a series of EPC packages for integrated processing facilities.
  • Advising UAE-based specialist equipment supplier in relation to claims and disputes against a Saudi government owned company concerning high-profile giga project.
  • Acting for Saudi government owned company in DAB proceedings commenced by contractor, concerning alleged claims and disputes in relation to major public/ tourist attraction in KSA.  
  • Acting for UAE government entity to defend final account claim relating to Dubai Airport Terminal 3.
  • Representing APAC contractor in arbitration against the Syrian Arab Republic relating to the refurbishment of Damascus Airport, and parallel proceedings in the Syrian Courts.  
  • Assisting international contractor on defect claim (water ingress) concerning luxury residential development on Palm Jumeirah Dubai, followed by subsequent final account arbitration.  
  • Advising UK contractor in relation to multiple disputes and major infrastructure projects in Oman.  
  • Acting for international oilfield services provider in relation to disputes concerning offshore wind farm in UK.  
  • Representing GCC contractor in defending defect claim (cladding) in relation to commercial development in Dubai.  

Non-contentious/ Project Counsel

  • Drafting bespoke contracts and consultancy agreements based on FIDIC suite of contracts, and ancillary documentation for various contractor and sub-contractor clients.
  • Advising construction joint venture engaged on Riyadh Metro in relation to reconciliation of contributions and dispute avoidance between JV partners.
  • Advising a leading GCC developer on the full suite of construction documents for a skyscraper in Dubai.
  • Acting as Project Counsel for international contractor in relation to multiple commercial and/ or mixed-used projects in the UAE.
  • Acting as Project Counsel and providing commercial advice to international EPC contractor in connection with a significant crude oil export facility and related pipeline/ other facilities in Iraq.
  • Advising multiple international and GCC contractors on workplace injuries/ fatalities in the UAE, and assisting with criminal investigations by the Police/ Public Prosecutor & subsequent judicial proceedings before all tiers of the local Courts.
