What challenges does Scotland face in achieving a fully digital justice system?

Around a decade ago, the Scottish Government set an ambitious goal by publishing The Digital Strategy for Justice in Scotland, which aimed for fully digitised, user-focused justice systems.

While this target hasn’t been fully met, significant strides have been made, especially in electronic court document management, which were accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Writing exclusively for The Scotsman, Andrew Tolmie considers what future steps may be taken to fully digitise court and pre-litigation processes in order to expedite resolutions and cut costs - particularly for lower value disputes.
