As part of the UK Government's ambition to target net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the Government has recently launched two new online services dedicated to simplifying  access to the EPC register of existing EPCs and  the process of finding an EPC assessor. The new services aim to provide consumers, building owners, occupiers and third parties with the effective data infrastructure that they need to facilitate informed decision making on energy performance matters.

The new Energy Performance of Buildings Register offers two primary services:

  1. The 'Find an Energy Certificate' tool; and
  2. The 'Getting a new Energy Certificate' option

Find an Energy Certificate

The 'Find an Energy Certificate' service allows users to search for existing domestic and non-domestic  EPCs , Display Energy Certificates (DECs) and air conditioning inspection certificates and reports for properties across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The search process itself is simple: users can search by postcode, street and town or by certificate number (where this is already known).  Whilst the intention is for this service to replace Landmark's existing register, both will continue to run for the foreseeable future.

Getting a new Energy Certificate

The new 'Getting a new Energy Certificate' tool searches a database of qualified energy assessors.  The service can be used to identify assessors who are able to provide new EPCs, DECs or air conditioning certificates and reports for domestic and non-domestic properties across the country (excluding Scotland).  Again, the new tool is easy to use: it allows users to search by postcode or the name of the assessor (where this is already known). It is hoped that this new, simple tool will encourage those seeking an assessment to do so quickly and easily.
