Michael is a partner at Clyde & Co Clasis Singapore and leads project development and finance transactions in Asia for the firm's Global Projects and Construction Group. He also leads Clyde & Co's Indonesia practice and co-leads its Myanmar practice. With more than 20 years of pan–Asian and Australian experience, Michael has a comprehensive understanding of complex infrastructure, trade and structured finance transactions across the region.
Michael’s broad project finance and development experience includes airports, conference centers, desalination plants, gas pipelines and utilities, hospitals, hotels, military accommodations, office buildings, power generation, power transmission and sub-sea interconnects, serviced flats, stadiums, toll roads and tunnels. He has represented borrowers, bond issuers, lenders, bond guarantors, developers and construction companies.
Michael's recent trade and commodities experience includes advising the national export credit agencies of North and Southeast Asian nations on oil & gas matters, financings and new product development, advising a Japanese lender on trade finance facilities, assisting a liquidity intermediary/asset manager in its structured commodities trading, representing an exporter in a US Commerce Department countervailing duties action and advising on a London-listed coal miner's proxy and other disputes.
Michael has led teams in both legal and business roles. He was previously the managing partner of the Singapore and Jakarta offices of a major international law firm and the managing director of the Asian and Australian offices of a AAA-rated financial institution providing long tenor infrastructure and structured finance solutions. Michael has served as chief risk officer of Indonesia Infrastructure Finance, Indonesia's sovereign wealth entity for infrastructure finance and development, at which Michael served as Head of the Credit Committee and a member of the Board of Directors.
Michael is a 1989 honors graduate of Harvard Law School, a Fulbright Scholar (Bonn, 1985-86) and a 1985 honors graduate of Tufts University. He speaks fluent Bahasa Indonesia and German.
