Clyde & Community: Inspiring young lives
Not everyone has the same opportunities or equal access to education and employment, so we work to encourage young people from less privileged backgrounds to aim higher in their education and careers.
The community projects we support and develop around the world embrace the firm’s values of opportunity for all and entrepreneurialism. If you would like to get involved with any if the projects you see below please get in contact with: Sophie Arup (UK & Global) and Sinead Boden (MENA only)
Supporting education and the next generation
We partner with schools, colleges, community groups and universities to increase opportunities for young people and to broaden their horizons. Staff in our local offices around the world run schemes for literacy, numeracy and chess with their local primary schools. In the UK we work with schools such as Weyfield Academy in Guildford, Holy Trinity Primary School in Manchester and Osmani Primary School in London. Our international offices work with schools such as the San Wui School in Hong Kong and Hope Primary School in Shanghai.

Preparation for higher education
One scheme prepares young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who are considering a university degree. Clyde & Co staff mentor sixth-form students from East London schools to support the development of independent learning and the study skills required for university, as well as helping plan for the future and broadening their horizons. These students are the first person in their families to consider university and often have no prior exposure to, or understanding of, these key skills.
I feel I have a much better chance for entering university… it helped me choose the right course as I had someone to talk to about it.

Entrepreneurs – businesses of the future
Hatch is an innovative business incubator in South London which specifically supports young entrepreneurs. Studies have shown that businesses launched with the support of an incubator are much more likely to succeed. The official body of UK Business Incubators (UKBI) suggests 87 per cent of start-ups that graduate from an incubator programme are still succeeding after five years, with early mentoring and support recognised as critical to that success. Clyde & Co staff support the young entrepreneurs through a mentoring programme. They use their skills and experience to provide practical advice; to help their mentees, to develop start-ups and to support the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Hatch Incubator’s mentoring programme is a great opportunity to provide a meaningful contribution to local communities by providing business and legal advice to new enterprises.
As a mentor, you have the chance to work with an entrepreneur on a one-to-one basis, offering start-up advice with a view to helping them achieve long-term sustainability. Advice covers various stages of the start-up lifecycle from ideation to feasibility to development and growth. For me personally, it was an incredibly rewarding experience from which I also learned a great deal.
Clyde & Co Hatch Mentor
It was so useful having a completely different angle on the business I have been creating. The programme offered a calm and professional environment to go into on a frequent basis and receive advice from a kind mentor in a completely different field. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
